Students volunteer to participate in the program; however they are required to be a current resident in a campus residence hall.


A brief description of the formal training that the student educators receive (1st program):

Student volunteers are required to attend 1 of 2 training sessions at the beginning of each academic year. The training sessions consist of a Hall Vols overview, including the program's purpose and the expectations of and the incentives for each volunteer; an overview of campus energy and water conservation strategies and how they can be better implemented in the residence halls; and a presentation on the campus recycling efforts, including what can and cannot be recycled on campus.

Hall Vols is supported by the the campus sustainability manager and funded through the environmental portion of the student facilities fee.
