New Student Orientation is held six times during the summer and serves over 90% of incoming students, as well as transfer students. New Student Services in the Dean of Students office coordinates Orientation (http://deanofstudents.utexas.edu/nss/).

The only direct reference to campus sustainability is in an hour-long optional session on the second day of Orientation, which is led by the Director of Sustainability and the student-run UT Campus Environmental Center. Typical attendance at the optional session is 10-15 students.

The Office of Sustainability and the UT Campus Environmental Center is currently collaborating with New Student Services to integrate sustainability topics into campus tours and required orientation sessions. At minimum, recycling practices and transportation options would be covered, while on the tours, the leaders might point out campus gardens and heritage trees, along with LEED-accredited buildings.
