A brief description of the institution’s workplace health and safety initiatives:
It is the policy of The University of Texas at Dallas to maintain a safe and healthy environment that is free from recognized hazards that could harm or adversely impact the health and well-being of our students, faculty, staff and visitors.
University operations shall be conducted in compliance with accepted safety, health and environmental regulations as appropriate. Where governmental regulations, code or standards may be absent, best practices employed by nationally recognized organizations and associations shall serve as guides to the Department of Environmental Health & Safety & Risk Management in establishing safe working requirements.
B. PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITY:
1. The responsibility for implementing the policies and procedures of the University's Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Program begins with the President and reaches through the entire University to include each member of the faculty, staff and student body.
2. Department Heads, Principal Investigators, managers, supervisors and all employees are responsible for compliance with the policies and procedures implemented under the EH&S Program. The primary responsibility for establishing and maintaining a safe and healthy environment is assigned to each operating unit.
3. Operation of the EH&S Program shall be delegated to the Associate Vice President and of the Department of and Environmental Health & Safety & Risk Management. EHS shall have the authority to request that academic deans and directors, department heads, managers, supervisors and other responsible individuals abate any and all unsafe conditions and/or operations that present a hazard to personal safety and health and/or University property.
