From the 2011 Van Ness Campus Master Plan:

"The University plans to integrate sustainable design practices into new construction and also undertake substantial improvements to improve the operation of its existing facilities. The University currently is reconstructing Dennard Plaza in order to reduce storm water runoff from the campus, and anticipates installing green roofs on several campus buildings during the life of the Plan."

The nearly complete plaza deck renovation at the Van Ness Campus includes the installation of 90,000 square feet of green roof area.

The plaza deck renovation features pervious pavers within the project, allowing for rainwater to infiltrate where the plaza sits directly above ground. In cases where pavers form the roof of the parking garage, they allow water to penetrate the surface of the plaza deck to be captured by the project's stormwater harvest system.

As part of the plaza deck renovation, a total of 18,000 gallons worth of cistern capacity has been added to the Van Ness Campus to capture storm water for potential reuse or for scrubbing before a delayed release into the municipal storm drain system.
