A brief description of the cultural competence trainings and activities:

Offered on a volunteer basis to employees roughly twice per year. Our Learning & Development office will also begin offering cultural competence trainings and activities. The IDI tool will be used to asses participants in order to structure the training appropriately.

Students who will be studying abroad must complete Cross-cultural I (pre-departure) and Cross-cultural II (post- study aboard). Cross-Cultural Training I prepares you for your study abroad. You learn how to communicate and live with people from other cultures, adjust to a new culture, and make the best use of your time abroad. You also learn how to make contacts abroad-contact who may prove to be very useful in your future career development.

Cross-Cultural Training II, a seminar taken on your return from study abroad, helps make “re-entry” easier. Those of you who have already lived abroad know just how difficult the return from overseas, often called “reentry shock,” can be. This seminar makes the transition easier.
