A brief description of the metering system:
Most older campus buildings were constructed prior to building-level metering being standard. However, current new construction design standards include building-level metering at minimum. The Hospitals and Clinics are fully metered for high-temperature water (heating), chilled water, and purchased electricity. Much of lower campus is heated by high-temperature water that is produced at the main heating plant; natural gas consumption is metered at the plant but not at high-temp water building delivery level. Housing and Residential Education buildings are also largely metered at the building level. The University has received funding to add substantial metering in FY12; this will focus primarily on electricity at the building level, according to the Utility Analyst. Approximately 95 percent of all buildings should be metered for electricity at the building level at the completion of the project.
