A brief description of the methodology used to determine the total number of courses offered and to identify sustainability course offerings, including the definitions used and the process for reviewing and/or validating the course inventory :

University of Utah Institutional Analysis provided a count of course sections.

Courses with Sustainability content were identified from the General Catalog including
1) Courses that are part of sustainability programs identified in AC-3 and AC4 (except general science courses)
2) Courses with titles that match the STARS criteria.
3) Courses with language in the course description that matches the STARS criteria.

We used the course catalog to identify courses and did not attempt to identify other courses with sustainability in the syllabus

In order to count the number of sections, sustainability course numbers were compared to courses listed on "Allocation of Student Credit Hours" reports for F2015, Sp2016, Sum 2016.

Total number of courses is taken from Allocation of Student Hours reports for one academic cycle (Fall 2015, Spring 2016, Summer 2016).

3000-5999= Upper Division

MS Project, Special Studies, Undergraduate Research, Innovation Scholar, Capstone Project, Faculty Consultation, Research, Directed Study, Labs, Seminars, Music lessons, etc...)

We did not count "courses that include sustainability" because we don't have an inventory of course syllabuses or a mechanism to collect them at this time.
