A brief description of how the literacy assessment was developed and/or when it was adopted:
The literacy assessment was created by the Director of Sustainability and was incorporated into an online module that has been made a part of the first-year experience courses at UWG in 2016. Most incoming freshmen take these courses, so most will have taken the sustainability literacy test.
A brief description of how a representative sample was reached (if applicable) and how the assessment(s) were administered :
The sample is representative as it includes most incoming freshmen, regardless of major or incoming test scores (everyone taking the UWG 1101 course). There are some alternatives to taking this course, but the decision to not take it cannot be linked to any particular type of student.
A brief summary of results from the literacy assessment(s), including a description of any measurable changes over time:
The literacy assessment is taken after the students participated in a short online module about sustainability. The assessment revealed basic understanding of key sustainability issues after taking part in the module. Follow up with more in depth instruction would probably be needed to bring deeper understanding to these issues.
