The University of West Georgia has a long standing relationship with the City of Carrollton. In the last couple of years the University (upper administration) has been particularly active in advocating for and working with the city to create better non-vehicular transportation options for University students. This has taken numerous dimensions, such as actively taking part in planning the walking and biking trail (the Greenbelt) that now circles the city; a portion of the Greenbelt travels through the campus. The University has also been an active supporter and sponsor of bringing a bike share program to the city. The University now funds part of the bike share system, which is licensed to the city. The University has also been an advocate for better transportation options for bikes and pedestrians to connect from the University to downtown Carrollton. The hope here is to create a more pedestrian friendly downtown and a "spoke" that would connect the Greenbelt on campus to downtown Carrollton.
