The funding from the IDI is used for a range of activities that include but not limited to: student recruitment and retention, curriculum development, seminar support, communications, staff support, faculty alternative workload arrangements and infrastructure.

The Centre for Environment and Sustainability is an IDI that was given half a million dollars by Western. With this funding, the Centre launched the Masters in Environment and Sustainability and collaborative program.
