A brief description of the institution’s indoor air quality program(s) (including information about regular auditing or monitoring, mechanisms for occupants to register complaints, and action plans):

Western Environmental System (WES) is the most important tool at the Western campus that helps control energy consumption and is monitored 24 hours a day. It is an advanced HVAC (heating, ventilating, and air conditioning) system that can remotely control campus air systems. This enables Facilities Management to schedule the shutdown of air-handling units in unoccupied areas; reduce energy usage during evenings and weekends and still maintain safe levels of air circulation and temperature.

Currently all buildings on campus, with the exception of the Biological and Geological Greenhouses, Solvent Storage Building, and the Photo Period Lab, are supported by WES. As well, new buildings are added as they go online.

If there are any complaints or an issue arises that needs to be reported, Western community members are encouraged to contact Client Services at extension 83304.
