A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome :

UW-Milwaukee has played a founding and leading role in the Mid-West Energy Research Consortium. Chancellor Lovell, board chairman for the past two years, has overseen extensive growth in MWERC's partnerships, grant writing and research, including the design and implementation of a micro-grid system on the UWM campus.

Mid-West Energy Research Consortium, formerly the Wisconsin Energy Research Consortium, is focused on the growth and economic competitiveness of the Energy, Power & Control Industry cluster across the Wisconsin/Midwest Region; consisting of the states of Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio.

MWERC helps drive the Wisconsin/Midwest Region and the USA to be energy independent based on usage of innovative solutions tied to energy related activities such as; generation, transmission, distribution, storage, automation, power conversion and energy efficiency / conservation.

MWERC is actively expanding beyond Wisconsin by adding companies and expanding partnering activities in the other states within the Wisconsin/Midwest Region that complement the academic and industry capabilities of membership.

A Unique Approach
MWERC combines industry and the power of leading Wisconsin/Midwest Engineering Research Universities and Technical Colleges to provide cutting-edge consulting, research, workforce development and industry expansion. They harness leading University and Technical College resources to support member companies, develop new companies and expand Wisconsin's Energy, Power and Control (EPC) Industry.
