Has the institution chosen a sustainability-related theme for its themed semester, year, or first-year experience during the past three years?:
Yes

A brief description of the themed semester, year, or first-year experience:

Every two years, the Writing-Based Inquiry Seminars (WBIS) program selects a work of fiction or nonfiction as its common reading for all sections (including English 101 and English 110). We look for works that broaden our knowledge of the world and its people. We search for books that address basic issues of human existence: How do people live in the world today? What is important in life? We also seek works that enhance our appreciation for writing. Part of the program is to have the author visit the campus. Selected books include:

2011-2013: Zeitoun, by Dave Eggers (a true story of a Syrian American's experience during and after Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans).

2009-2011: A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah
2007-2009: Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien,
2005-2007: Krik? Krak! by Edwidge Danticat

The sustainability-related book that was chosen, if applicable:
Zeitoun, by Dave Eggers
