A brief description of the undergraduate degree program:

This online program will equip students with the management skills and problem-solving knowledge to navigate our new economy and lead sustainable business practices and initiatives. The courses will provide students with a broad understanding of the intersections among business, natural sciences, and social systems: knowledge students can apply in their current workplace or in a position with a company that's focused on sustainability. This program is designed for individuals with an associate degree who want to complete their bachelor's degree and are passionate about a healthy environment, strong profitability and vital communities coexisting now and in the future.

Conservation and Environmental Planning

A brief description of the undergraduate degree program (2nd program):

The Conservation and Environmental Planning major focuses on the scientific, field-based management of our natural resources, including wildlife, water, soil, air, human developments and the interaction of these systems. The integrity and performance of these systems are critical for maintaining a healthy environment, a high standard of living, and sustainable development. Graduates of this program will provide the expertise to establish, maintain, restore and rehabilitate natural systems in order to promote sustainability, economic stability, and quality of life.

Environmental Science

A brief description of the undergraduate degree program (3rd program):

The Environmental Science major is an interdisciplinary major designed to prepare students to face increasingly complex environmental challenges in the context of environmental quality management and sustainable development. This science-based major integrates courses in math, chemistry, physics, geology, hydrology, atmospheric science, soil science, biology and geospatial data analysis.

Program Goals: Provide students with a multi-disciplinary foundation for thinking about sustainability. Discuss the concept of sustainability from a biogeochemical perspective.
Address the social and economic facets of sustainability. Discuss the challenges that face humanity in becoming sustainable. Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to create a personal definition of sustainability. Analyze human impacts on natural systems and processes that affect the ability of humanity to live sustainably. Interpret sustainability issues in the context of element cycles. Compare and contrast the role of public and private entities in creating sustainable societies. Identify facets of social/economic/industrial structures that could be changed to make society more sustainable.

Sustainable Agriculture Minor

A brief description of the undergraduate minor, concentration or certificate (2nd program):

Students who select this minor will learn about sustainable agriculture in its broadest sense, including issues related to maintaining and/or improving crop and animal productivity, preserving environmental resources for future generations, ensuring farm profitability, and ensuring rural community vitality and viability. They learn how to build markets and opportunities for producers, and they help consumers make "green" choices on purchased products.

Sustainable agriculturalists work as producers of value added crops, such as organic produce, grains and meats. Some provide technical support for crop and animal production systems, develop soil and nutrient management plans, work with producers to control insects, diseases and other pests with integrated pest management techniques, market locally-grown food products, and research ways to make agriculture more efficient, environmentally sound and sustainable for future generations.

Sustainable Justice

A brief description of the undergraduate minor, concentration or certificate (3rd program):

Program Goals: Explore sustainability through an environmental justice lens. Introduce students to both the environmental humanities and the environmental sciences, developing a trans-disciplinary approach to solving sustainability problems. Provide different cultural perspectives on human identity, and the way these views shape our environmental, social, and economic relations. Encourage students’ awareness of their social, economic, and environmental behaviors and how they can promote sustainable justice in their personal and professional lives.
