*All of our fuels tested prior to use to ensure that we meet the requirements of our air permit. Also we have ultra, low, sulpher fuel oil as a backup, and only allowed to burn it as an emergency fuel. The fuels are tested for content, then we measure how much is burned, then calculate emissions. The DNR sets the requirements, not the university. In the past when we used to burn more coal we would conduct stack testing, but now that we burn such a smaller amount (1000 tons this year), by permit we are exempted.
