A brief description of the plan(s) to advance sustainability in Curriculum:

UW-Stout signed the ACUPCC in 2007 and adopted a Campus Sustainability Action Plan in 2009. This plan is our guiding document for sustainable development of the campus. We review it annually and assign sustainability-related charges to various departments and committees on campus. Charges for this Action Plan are assigned by many levels of campus, including the Chancellor and Strategic Planning Group, the Vice Chancellor of Administrative & Student Life Services, and Student Life Services. These charges are to be completed within 12 months. Departments are required to report back every 6 months.

Additionally, the Sustainability Steering Committee updates the Campus Sustainability Action Plan every five years, then presents it to the Strategic Planning Group for approval. This plan seeks to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and educate student and staff regarding climate change by creating objectives for the following areas of campus sustainability:

♣ Curriculum & Research
♣ Air & Climate
♣ Buildings
♣ Energy
♣ Landscapes & Grounds
♣ Waste
♣ Food
♣ Transportation
♣ Water
♣ Purchasing

So Curriculum & Research is incorporated into the Campus Sustainability Action Plan. UW-Stout’s Strategic Planning Group incorporated the Campus Sustainability Action Plan into its strategic planning process, along with several other action plans that the university prioritizes.

+ Date Revised: May 4, 2016

The measurable objectives, strategies and timeframes included in the Curriculum plan(s):

♣ Develop a Sustainability liaison for each college to interface with Sustainability Across the Curriculum Network (SACN) and present sustainability-related information to the Dean’s Council
♣ Develop a plan to tie sustainability courses to general education requirements, particularly through the social responsibility/ethical reasoning credits
♣ Develop a proposal to make sustainability work part of the promotion/tenure criteria
♣ Update list of faculty/staff who are teaching sustainability in the curriculum
♣ Develop a program to incentivize faculty to audit non-discipline sustainability courses, to help faculty to speak across disciplinary boundaries
♣ Revise Sustainability Minor (by December 2016)
♣ Continue to update list of potential classroom projects and make available on UW-Stout Sustainability website
