Valencia College employs the following technologies or strategies: retention ponds, vegetated swales, and rainwater harvesting. Design for stormwater management is required by our water management districts.

The dimensions of the ponds are regulated by our water management districts. We vegetate them with the appropriate native wetland plants and contract with an outside firm to maintain them, removing invasives, on a quarterly basis.

Rainwater harvesting in two of our LEED buildings. The Special Events Center on West has a 9000 gallon cistern and Bldg 4 on Osceola Campus, soon to be completed, has a 10,000 gallon cistern capturing roof runoff. Water is used in both cases for toilet flushing.
