In Valencia College's Strategic Goals, Priority 1 is Ensure Open-Door Access and Student Success. Approximately 85% of our full-time first time degree seeking students receive full or partial scholarships to attend Valencia College. Our office of Financial Aid helps students to secure Grants, Scholarships, Loans, or participate in Work Study Programs.

Since Priority 1 of our Strategic Goals is Ensure Open-Door Access and Student Success, most required faculty workshops include a focus or at least mention of this aspect. We are a Learning Centered College, and understanding the characteristics of our students is part of effective teaching.

The Office of Bridges to Success (BTS) is responsible for working with diverse populations to assist with the post-secondary transition from application to enrollment and graduation; assist the college in creating an educational environment that supports the success of these students. BTS is committed to helping all students become successful in achieving their educational and career goals. BTS, as a part of its action plan for minority recruitment and retention maintains vital connections with colleges and universities throughout the country, and with minority churches and other civic and ethnic groups in the community that support students in their educational endeavors.

Valencia College actively works to provide scholarships for low-income students. http://valenciacollege.edu/finaid/gettingstarted/using_finaid.cfm. Valencia Foundation's endowment of more than $49 million is the largest community college endowment in the country. The office of Transition Services offers orientation for parents and families of new students. There are also Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) workshops on how to obtain scholarships.

The office of Transition Services is committed to assisting students in making decisions about their educational paths following high school or as a career change. Transitions staff visit and present at high schools in the area.

Valencia College was the 2012 (inaugural) winner of the $600,000 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence which seeks to recognize the nation’s most innovative and effective community colleges. Valencia stood out according to Aspen officials, because it helps students graduate or transfer to other institutions at a rate nearly 12 percent above the national average.Valencia provides a wide variety of Skillshops for students, of which 4 are required along with 30 community service hours by the Bridges to Success Program. LifeMap is a program of the counseling department, a student's guide to figuring out "what to do when" in order to complete their career and education goals.
