A brief description of the assessment(s):

Over the course of the 2008-2009 academic year, the Committee on Inclusion and Excellence (CIE) conducted a cultural audit titled “What would it take for you to thrive at Vassar?” that gathered student experiences of – and ideas for – campus life and learning at Vassar. The audit culminated in a report outlining the process for gathering data, a summary of findings and some key recommendations.

Year the assessment was last administered:
2,010

A brief description of how the results of the assessment(s) are used in shaping policy, programs, and initiatives:

Published in the fall of 2010, the audit report has been used as a resource to help shape the priorities of the CIE and other groups at Vassar. For instance, the issues raised in the audit pointed to the importance of faculty as resources both inside and outside the classroom for mediating difficult dialogues campus-wide. As a result, CIE secured a grant and held a workshop for interested faculty called “Leaning into Conflict: Enabling Faculty Competence, Courage, and Compassion to Address Campus Conflicts and Crisis.” The audit has also been taken up by the Dean of the College. Most recently it has opened up a conversation about campus rituals and inclusiveness among the Committee on College Life.
