The Office of Energy and Sustainability recruited interested students from the various sustainability focused organizations. All interested students were accepted into the program, and were required to complete a two-week intensive training before they were allowed to give any presentations.


A brief description of the formal training that the student educators receive (1st program):

There was a two week intensive training period for all Green Team members. There were two 90 minute sessions per week that covered the details of all of the major global environmental issues that were covered in the presentation, basics on presentation skills, and an overview of how to most effectively communicate the issues to their peers. All trained GT members were also provided access to a detailed electronic training manual that had more in depth information.


A brief description of the staff and/or other financial support the institution provides to the program (1st program):

The program coordinator was a paid student intern that developed the program and facilitated the training sessions. The paid web developer for VT Recycling was also dedicating an estimated 50% of his time to assisting the team manage the presentations and materials with a robust VT GT website as well. Lastly, there were two paid Assistant Coordinators that worked 5 hours a week and focused on arranging presentations with student organizations. The Green Team Assistant Coordinators contacted the leadership of every student organization on campus.
