Facilities Services is currently updating the Design & Construction Guidelines, which will further advance expectations and requirements for LEED Silver (minimum) New Construction. Please see http://www.facilities.vt.edu/udc/ for more details.
The names of all buildings that are certified under the LEED for New Construction and Major Renovations, LEED for Commercial Interiors, and/or LEED for Core and Shell Green Building Rating Systems:
Virginia Tech has a total of 18 LEED registered projects with the US Green Building Council (USGBC) located on the Blacksburg campus having a total of 1,371,261 GSF. Nine projects have been completed and are LEED certified (4 Gold, 4 Silver, and 1 Certified), four are completed and awaiting certification, three are under construction, and two are in design. Specifically:
A. Nine LEED registered projects are completed and certified (total of 526,895 GSF).
1. The Henderson Hall Renovation and Theatre 101 Addition project (38,750 GSF) was completed in the fall 2009, and awarded LEED "Gold" certification on February 5, 2010. NOTE: Not included in our figures in accordance with the STARS Technical Manual Version 1.2 as it exceeds the three year threshold.
2. The Additions to the Football Locker Room project (42,145 GSF) was completed and awarded LEED “Silver” certification in October 2011.
3. The Institute for Critical Technology & Applied Sciences II project (42,190 GSF) was completed and awarded LEED “Gold” certification on November 21, 2011.
4. The Visitors and Undergraduate Admissions Center project (18,155 GSF) was completed and awarded LEED “Certified” certification on August 23, 2012.
5. The Academic & Student Affairs Building (Lavery Hall) project (75,000 GSF) has been completed and was awarded LEED "Silver" certification in April 2013. http://www.vtnews.vt.edu/articles/2014/01/012814-vpa-buildingawards.html
6. The Vet Med Instruction Addition project (22,000 GSF) has been completed and was awarded LEED "Silver" certification in June 2013.
7. The Renovation of the Ambler Johnston Residence Hall project (272,000 GSF) has been completed and was awarded LEED “Gold” on November 1, 2013.
8. The Southwest Chiller Plant Phase I project (16,655 GSF) has been completed and was awarded LEED “Silver” on November 21, 2013.
9. The Moss Arts Center project (147,382 GSF) has been completed and was awarded LEED "Gold" certification in May 2014.
B. Four LEED registered projects are completed and awaiting certification (total of 314,148 GSF).
1. The Goodwin Hall (Signature Engineering Building) project (154,935 GSF).
2. The Human & Agricultural Biosciences building I project (93,860 GSF).
3. The Renovation of Davidson Hall Chemistry Building project (44,845 GSF).
4. The Phase IV of the Oak Lane Community project (20,508 GSF).
C. Three LEED registered projects are under construction (200,766 GSF).
1. The New Rasche Residence Hall project (111,191 GSF).
2. Indoor Athletic Training Facility (85,225 GSF).
3. Marching Virginians Practice Facility (4,350 GSF).
D. Two LEED registered projects that are under design (total of 182,070 GSF).
1. The New Brodie Residence Hall project (108,795 GSF).
2. The New Classroom Building project (73,275 GSF)
The Virginia Tech Research Center- Arlington project (144,632 GSF) was recently completed. The university leases the building from the Virginia Tech Foundation, and it provides a critical research facility in Northern Virginia. The facility is LEED Certified. In addition, the Technology Research & Innovation Center project (60,000 GSF) was recently completed for the National Institute of Aeronautics in Hampton, Virginia. Virginia Tech was the state agency that had the lead for providing project management services. It is LEED Certified.

The names of all buildings designed and constructed in accordance with green building guidelines and policies but not LEED certified:
The Virginia Tech Climate Action Commitment approved on June 1, 2009 and revised on May 9, 2013 requires all new buildings and major renovation projects to be LEED "Silver" certified or better.
The University has nine buildings on the Blacksburg campus totaling 792,566 GSF that were in design and construction just prior to the Virginia Tech Climate Action Commitment being approved June 1, 2009 by the Board of Visitors. They were designed and constructed in accordance with green building polices or guidelines, but are not LEED certified. Specific projects are listed below in gross square feet:
1. Institute for Critical Technology & Applied Sciences- I (99,411 GSF).
2. Life Sciences I (71,799 GSF).
3. New Residence Hall West (92,800 GSF).
4. Basketball Practice Facility (52,944 GSF).
5. McComas Hall Addition (27,000 GSF).
6. Materials Management Facility (7,500 GSF).
7. Parking Structure (418,000 GSF).
8. West End Market Expansion and Renovation (7,432 GSF).
9. The Infectious Disease Research Facility project (15,700 GSF)
