The average hourly rate for our lowest paid regular employees (those employees in pay band 1 of 7) is $11.04. Add in the value of benefits and the total hourly compensation amounts to $15.56 or 104% of the living wage.

Virginia Tech provides a generous benefits package to our salaried employees which includes retirement benefits, a comprehensive medical plan, short and long term disability and life insurance.

Virginia Tech’s dining services are not contracted out. Consequently, a large percentage of our employee population that would be contracted out by universities are employees of Virginia Tech.

For individuals paid under the university’s temporary employment service contracts, the university’s contracts specify that the minimum hourly rate for the lowest paying job type is no lower than the minimum hourly rate for the comparable job type within the university. When these contracts are re-negotiated Human Resources adjusts the minimum rate as needed based on any changes in the university compensation plan.
