A brief description of any internal sustainability professional development and training opportunities that the institution makes available to staff:
Dining Services and the Office of Sustainability have teamed up to offer catered, educational sessions to various departments so that they can take sustainability into account when ordering catering. The sessions focus on plant-forward dining and waste reduction and have been met with rave reviews by staff. Many were previously unaware of the environmental benefits of plant-forward dining and the copious options available to them. To date, these sessions have been provided to the School of Divinity, Residence Life & Housing, Campus Life Partners, the Office of Admissions, and executive administrative assistants.
The Green Team, a peer education network of faculty and staff, meets quarterly and engages in trainings on maximizing sustainability in the workplace and how representatives can lead their colleagues in behavior change. All departments, offices, schools, and units are encouraged to participate.
Through the Professional Development Center, multiple opportunities are offered each year that focus on sustainability and are available to all staff. In August 2016, two "Project Wake" talks were sustainability-themed: "Overdressed: The Shockingly High Cost of Cheap Fashion" and "This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. the Climate." In December 2016, a course on nutritious dining was made available and supported the emphasis on plant-forward dining. Finally, in March 2017, the Office of Sustainability partnered with Campus Kitchen and THRIVE to offer a cooking class that focused on the reduction of food waste through creative recipes and food label education.
In previous years, other programs, such as "CORE Sustainability" and "Home Energy Conservation" workshops, were offered. In addition, department-focused sustainability trainings are always available upon request, and we have offered a number of building information sessions to educate staff on how their daily decisions can impact the efficiency of building operations in their specific space.

Through professional development funding, staff may attend conferences, meetings, and courses related to sustainability. These decisions are made by individual employees and their supervisors.
