These values were based on estimates from 2010 which suggest between 4% and 6% of the endowment was invested in sustainable industries. In that analysis, timberland, renewable energy, energy conservation technologies, LEED certified buildings, and water conservation and filtration technologies were included Given the movements in the portfolio, we feel comfortable in saying that we are at or above the high end of that range today.

Wellesley College does not invest funds dedicated solely to sustainability or socially responsible mutual funds because we believe that we will be better served by managers who have broader expertise in new technologies. The College has significant exposure to venture capital, and as a result, we have investments related to wind, solar, bio-fuels, battery storage, and a broad range of emerging energy conservation technologies.
