A brief description of the institution’s participation in federal TRIO programs:
WKU participates in six of the eight federally funded TRIO programs under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and are administered by the U.S. Department of Education. WKU’s programs include Educational Talent Search, Educational Opportunity Center, Student Support Services, TRIO Training Program, Upward Bound, and Veterans Upward Bound.
A brief description of the institution’s policies and programs to minimize the cost of attendance for low-income students?:
Student Support Services helps college students persist and graduate from college. The program at WKU serves 225 students and provides supplemental financial assistance.

The WKU Faculty Center for Excellence in Teaching (FaCET) provides training for faculty every year to every other year that includes how to better serve students from low-income backgrounds.

WKU does not have program run by the institution to guide the parents of low income students but there is a state program that reaches to all high school students and their parents to help guide them through the higher education experience. The Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) is a public corporation and governmental agency and instrumentality of the Commonwealth established in 1966 to improve students' access to higher education.

A specific program doesn’t exist. The students complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and the award is based upon eligibility.
