Has the institution engaged in a structured assessment process during the previous three years to improve diversity, equity and inclusion on campus?:
Yes

A brief description of the assessment process and the framework, scorecard(s) and/or tool(s) used:

The WKU Student Campus Diversity Survey was developed specifically to gather data relevant to the WKU campus diversity climate; attitudes with respect to fairness, inclusiveness, equality, and sensitivity; student experience with diversity; and beliefs and attitudes about diversity on campus. The survey instrument contained five sections: demographic information, campus experience, perceptions of diversity on campus including inclusion and fairness, diversity in the classroom, and perceptions about one’s academic experience. All responses were made on a 5-point scale ranging from 1-Strongly Disagree to 5-Strongly Agree, unless otherwise noted. For purposes of data analyses, 23 composites were formed by grouping items related to specific diversity issues. The WKU Student Campus Diversity Survey was administered in April 2014.
A fairly representative sample of 955 WKU students responded to the WKU Campus Diversity Survey.
In 2012, a Campus Climate Survey was conducted for faculty and staff. (We understand this does not meet the 3 year criteria, but want to note that this was completed and will be conducted again soon.)

Does the assessment process address campus climate by engaging stakeholders to assess the attitudes, perceptions and behaviors of faculty, staff, administrators and students, including the experiences of underrepresented groups?:
No

Does the assessment process address student outcomes related to diversity, equity and success (e.g. graduation/success and retention rates for underrepresented groups)?:
Yes

Does the assessment process address employee outcomes related to diversity and equity (e.g. pay and retention rates for underrepresented groups)?:
No

A brief description of the most recent assessment findings and how the results are used in shaping policy, programs and initiatives:

The above described Campus Climate survey, along with statistics obtained by Institutional Research help to inform the University Diversity Plan (presently in progress). This plan includes strategies for increasing diversity on campus, and also for improving the campus climate in regard to diversity. The Diversity Enhancement Committee, comprised of campus and community stakeholders, has used the results of the survey to develop this plan, as well as inform policy and implement practice. Examples of outcomes of this survey include WKU's participation in the Campus PRIDE index, the creation of Lavender graduation ceremony, and the establishment of Safe Spaces.
list of committee stakeholders can be found here:https://www.wku.edu/dec/documents/committeemembers/decmembers.pdf
