Western's Hydro Power Station (former Angelo Dam) is a region of conservation importance.

There are no programs in place, but the college is working to create more natural plant communities around its campuses. Western's Hyrdo Power Station (Angelo Dam) would be an assessment mindful of the draw down of the lake. DNR is asking for an invasive species plan. The Sparta Public safety facility does also touch some sensitive property (La Crosse River) as well.
