All of Western's electronics are either refurbished, donated or sold. If they cannot be refurbished, they are taken to the County Hazardous Materials Facility. HazMat items, bulbs, batteries, etc. are also taken to this facility for recycling or proper disposal. Furnishings are usually resold or donated. Western's trash is incinerated at the Xcel Waste-to-Energy facility in La Crosse.
A brief description of any food donation programs employed by the institution:
Western has a food donation program through the Cavalier Cupboard. Students bring in any unwanted food to the cupboard, from here the food is distributed to local organizations who provide help to those in the community who need assistance.
A brief description of any pre-consumer food waste composting program employed by the institution:
Pre-consumer food waste is donated to a local chicken farmer who uses it to feed animals on the farm.
A brief description of any post-consumer food waste composting program employed by the institution:
Food waste from the dining hall is donated to member within the local community. Community members use the food waste for their personal gardens, crops, and composting efforts.
