The sustainability office has received the awards with Tree Campus USA, Climate Commitment award, Green Ribbon Schools and the Climate Leadership award. Western Technical College's sustainability department received national attention being featured on the LEED website for their leadership in the field. Western has built one of the first industrial platinum LEED rated buildings in Wisconsin. The sustainability department has also worked in bringing a certified Passive House, photovoltaic arrays, and a hydroelectric dam to Western as both energy conservation programs and a tool for students to learn about sustainable energy practices.

The Western Environmental and Sustainability Team (WEST) meets to discuss college sustainability issues, projects, and happenings. The team developed and implemented a sustainability plan for the college, and regularly reviews and updates this plan.

Though the membership of this committee is relatively fluid with ad-hoc committees consisting of other faculty, staff, and students developing on an as-needed basis depending on the project, there are a number of core stakeholders who guide the overall vision:

A brief description of each sustainability office:

Western Technical College has a full time Sustainability Coordinator position who helps to organize sustainability efforts on campus. The sustainability coordinator reports directly to the VP of Strategic Engagement. In addition, there are 1.5 employees assigned to the Director of Facilities. These employees manage our Energy Conservation program and provide some administrative support for the Sustainability Coordinator
