In our preparation for storm water runoff control, we considered all of the department of ecology's minimum requirements featured in their Storm Water Management Manual which included the preservation of natural drainage systems and outfalls. At Whatcom Community College, the natural drainage systems have been preserved by maintaining the existing drainage basin boundaries that separate flows that discharge to the Spring and Silver creeks.

Our stormwater pollution prevention plan was designed in accordance with the 2001 department of ecology's stormwater management manual. In short, the stormwater runoff from impervious sources flows into drains where a system of pipes conveys the stormwater through a media filter catch basin and then into a wetpond where it stays until excess water is drained into multiple wetlands in relatively close proximity to and on campus. The water filtration system is designed to meet Washington state water quality regulations for discharging to a wetland.
