Does the institution administer and/or participate in a program or programs to help build a diverse faculty that meet the criteria for this credit?:
Yes

A brief description of the institution’s programs that help increase the diversity of higher education faculty:

The Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship (MMUF) and the Allison Davis Research Fellowship (ADRF) work to increase racial and socio-economic diversity in higher education by preparing students from underrepresented groups for academic careers.

Both the MMUF and the ADRF fellowships provide opportunities for faculty-mentored research, preparation for graduate school, and individualized support from the Office of Special Academic Programs.

The fundamental objective of Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship (MMUF) is to increase the number of minority students, and others with a demonstrated commitment to eradicating racial disparities, who will pursue PhDs in designated fields of study. The program aims to “reduce over time the serious under-representation on college and university faculties of individuals from certain minority groups, as well as to address the attendant educational consequences of these disparities.”

The Allison Davis Research Fellowship (ADRF) was established by the College in 1999 (initially as the Williams College Undergraduate Research Fellowship) to provide opportunities for students from groups traditionally underrepresented in higher education to pursue advanced research under the guidance of faculty mentors and to learn about graduate school and academic careers. The fundamental objective of the ADRF is to increase diversity in graduate programs and on the faculties colleges and universities. The program serves the related goals of contributing to the campus intellectual environment and of helping the College become a place where all students can excel academically.
