On behalf of the International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU), Yale University and Oxford University submitted a project for the International Sustainable Campus Network (ISCN) Sustainable Campus Excellence Awards 2018 in the Innovative Collaboration category. The ISCN Sustainable Campus Excellence Awards promotes landmark projects that demonstrate how the environmental, social and economic issues of our time provide opportunities for university administrations and faculty alike to improve campus infrastructures and university administration and recognize opportunities to integrate them into their research and learning activities. The project submitted is the IARU Green Guide for Universities, jointly developed by the ten IARU universities and the international think-tank Sustainia, which presents key issues, recommendations and lessons learned by IARU universities. It addresses the challenges and opportunities of campus sustainability, with a particular focus on environmental aspects. The guide includes 23 inspiring cases that have made a difference at the IARU universities.

A staff member of the Office of Sustainability reviewed and wrote a letter of support for a STARS Innovation Credit submitted by Green Mountain College in 2016.

A brief description of other collaborative efforts around sustainability during the previous year:

Yale is a member of the Ivy Plus Sustainability Consortium. Members of this group contribute monetary and other resources to a joint planning, networking, and engagement effort for the exchange of campus sustainability solutions common to all of our campuses. In addition, Yale participated in the International Alliance of Research Universities Sustainability Fellowships program during the summer of 2017, during which a student from Yale and a student from Australian National University worked in the other institution's sustainability office.
