YSM Laboratory Occupancy Training - A guide to sustainable lab practices at YSM: As a member of the Yale community, your contribution to Yale’s sustainability efforts are essential to the University’s success in achieving the goals of the Yale Sustainability Strategic Plan. This self-guided program will help you learn how to occupy your building more sustainably and guide you through the University’s recommended best practices in the areas of: Energy & Water, Waste Management, Procurement, Use of Kitchen and Shared Areas, Travel and Transportation.

Flextime in the Workplace: When managed well, flexible work arrangements--compressed work weeks, reduced work schedules, off-hour schedules, etc.--benefit both the department and employee. This interactive workshop will help attendees explore the issues surrounding development and implementation of flexible schedule options available at Yale. This workshop is targeted for managers and supervisors, but other employees are welcome.

Transportation Options Information Session: Attend this workshop to learn about your options, including walking, biking, carpooling, and taking the bus or train, as well as the benefits available to you as a Yale employee for having a sustainable commute. Learn about programs such as pre-tax savings on transit passes, free monthly parking stays for transit riders and carpoolers, and the guaranteed ride home program. Sign up for individualized commuter counseling from CTrides, a program of the Connecticut Department of Transportation, to learn about all the options you have to get from home to work.

Environmental Politics and Law: Can law change human behavior to be less environmentally damaging? Law will be examined through case histories including: environmental effects of national security, pesticides, air pollution, consumer products, plastics, parks and protected area management, land use, urban growth and sprawl, public/private transit, drinking water standards, food safety, and hazardous site restoration. In each case we will review the structure of law and evaluate its strengths and weaknesses.
