Environmental/ Energy Club, Undergraduate Club
The Yeshiva University Environment/Energy Club, which includes students from Stern College for Women, Sy Syms School of Business and Yeshiva College, has several goals: to initiate discussion of the relationship between living green and Halakhah as well as to promote energy efficient living, to encourage the reduction of the free world's dependence on Middle eastern oil, thereby putting both the United States and Israel in better positions of national security, to create awareness among students about the detrimental effects of excess waste and use of non biodegradable products and to encourage the slogan Reduce, Reuse, Recycle in order to make a greener and cleaner tomorrow for generations that succeed ours. Cardozo Environmental Law Society
CELS serves as a social and educational outlet for Cardozo students interested in environmental issues. The organization sponsors guest speakers, arranges career panels, and provides information about how students can become involved in the field of environmental law. They host events addressing topics such as sustainability and contemporary environmental concerns as well as promote sustainability efforts at Cardozo's facilities. CELS also advocates in relevant campaigns in the broader community with an emphasis on local, national and international issues of environmental concern. Einstein Garden Club
The Garden Club maintains 21 raised beds, up from 16. With well over 30 members, each cares for half a bed--roughly sixteen square feet. The Club has an active food waste composting program with a new 3 bin compost system built by the students, supplemented with yard waste from Housekeeping. The Club maintains a communal herb garden as well communal grape and raspberry vines, peas, gourds, and roses.
The Community Gardens not only brings individual members but families, friends and everyone at Einstein to enjoy the gardens. More information about the Einstein Garden Club can be found at http://yu.edu/sustainability/student-groups/einstein/.
Einstein Environmental Sustainability and Conservation (EESC)
Einstein Environmental Sustainability and Conservation (EESC) seeks to promote environmental sustainability changes at Einstein, raise awareness on the connection between the environment and public health, and encourage students to take steps in making Einstein a greener place. EESC plans to initiate and facilitate grass root environmental consciousness and activism starting with Einstein and the Bronx, hoping that one day the movement will radiate well beyond the Bronx and contribute to the rise of an advanced and sustainable future on Earth. 1. Community Garden: The Einstein Environmental Sustainability and Conservation club (EESC), along with the Bronx, Obesity, Diabetes and You (BODY) club built a community garden and encouraged other throughout Earth Week to help them prepare the garden for the upcoming growing season.
2. Themed Days: The Einstein Environmental Sustainability and Conservation club helped organize themed days throughout Earth Week. On Meatless Monday the club hosted a vegetarian potluck dinner to exemplify a healthy and environmentally-friendly meal. On Take the Stairs Tuesday the club put up posters and signs reminding students that taking the stairs can save energy. On Why Recycle Wednesday the club handed out free cardboard boxes for recyclables.
3. Builder Battles: The Environmental Society ran the event Builder Battles, an eco-friendly building competition through which students built sculptures using only materials that are recyclable in NYC. The goal of this event was to educate students about what is recyclable in NYC and to demonstrate how fun recycling can be.
4. Spring Hike: Yeshiva University's Environmental Society ran a Spring Hike at Harrisman State Park. On the hike students had the opportunity to experience beautiful views and enjoy the outdoors before finals.
