A brief description of the institution’s Low Impact Development (LID) practices:

Through standard stormwater management practices, York University uses Low Impact Development practices to ensure that as little impact on the natural hydrological cycle is made. York University uses multiple natural features for stormwater management, such as: bioswales, vegetated roofs, natural stormwater retention ponds and permeable pavement.


Has the institution adopted a rainwater/stormwater management policy, plan, or strategies that mitigate the rainwater runoff impacts of ongoing campus operations through the use of green infrastructure? :

A brief description of the institution’s rainwater/stormwater management policy, plan, and/or strategies for ongoing campus operations:

The storm water management system of the Keele campus, was improved to meet the current City of Toronto requirements of the City’s Wet Weather Flow Management (WWFM) Guidelines by constructing the Tennis Canada Pond in 2004 and improving the Stong Pond in 2007.

York's Keele campus has two storm water retention ponds - Stong Pond, and the Tennis Canada Pond.

Keele Campus contains bioswales throughout campus that collect stormwater runoff from many roads and parking lots. The bioswales contain both stone and vegetation.
