What is the difference between Required, Conditionally Required and Optional reporting fields?

Each STARS credit may have three types of reporting fields:

  • Required fields must be filled out to save the credit as complete, calculate the score for the credit, and make the credit available for inclusion in a published report.
  • Conditionally required fields must be completed if certain conditions are met. For example if an institution responds “Yes” that is has a certain program, then a description of that program may be required. (The trigger for each conditionally required field is outlined in the STARS Technical Manual).
  • Optional fields are not required to save the credit as complete and have no impact on scoring. They are included to give participants the opportunity to provide additional context.
