Questions & Answers
How has this credit changed between STARS Version 2 and Version 3?
This is a new credit that requires quantitative data on students and employees by gender. A comprehensive list of differences can be found in the STARS 3.0 Summary of changes.
How do we measure gender parity under this credit?
Report on the most recent data from the previous three years. This may be a representative snapshot or the average of a one to three year period.
- Indicator 8.1 (students) – An institution may report on its entire student body or limit its analysis to the predominant student body. An institution that tracks gender identity (or sex) in a binary way should report on individuals who are identified as women (or else not identified as men) in the institution’s student data systems.
- Indicator 8.2 (employees) – Report on all regular/permanent employees. Individual executive staff members may be classified as academic staff, non-academic staff, or neither and may therefore also be included in the academic and non-academic staff figures. There is no need to avoid double-counting in this regard. An institution that tracks gender identity (or sex) in a binary way should report on individuals who are identified as women (or else not identified as men) in the institution’s human resources system.

Potential Data Quality Issues
- Indicator 8.2. Numeric outlier: If reporting 45% or higher under “Percentage of executive staff that identify as women or other marginalized gender identities”, documentation should affirm that amounts are comprehensive, and that nearly one-half or more of executive staff are likely to identify as women or other marginalized identities (e.g., a webpage URL and/or descriptive text with executive staff bios in Notes field).
