This is an optional Innovation & Leadership credit. These credits recognize exemplary practices and performance above and beyond what is recognized in standard credits and may not be relevant to every institution. Scoring in the Innovation and Leadership section is capped at 4 bonus points total.

Does “Calstart Sustainable Fleets accreditation” qualify under this credit?

Yes. The “NAFA Sustainable Accredited Fleet certification” has rebranded to be the Calstart Sustainable Fleets accreditation program. Institutions participating in Calstart and equivalent programs can earn points for this exemplary practice credit.

  • University of California, Davis – Includes an uploaded copy of the signed agreement with NAFA Sustainable Accredited Fleet and links to a webpage on the institution’s fleet services. The Notes field includes historical information and context.  
  • University of Virginia – Documentation provided includes a link to a news story on the sustainable fleet certification, and information in the Notes field on being the first in the region to earn fleet certification.

Common Issues Identified During Review

  • To count, the institution’s motorized vehicle fleet must currently recognized as a NAFA Sustainable Accredited Fleet or by an equivalent third party certification program approved by AASHE. Documentation affirming the certification is required.
