A brief description of the institution’s efforts to support alternative fuel and power technology in its motorized fleet:

In 2015, Colgate sold or traded in its full fleet of vehicles and replaced them with newer, more fuel-efficient models (including a few hybrid vehicles). These vehicles are rotated out of our fleet on a 3-year basis and replaced with more fuel-efficient vehicles whenever possible. This has resulted in an overall reduction in gasoline consumed by our vehicle fleet. For example, in 2015 Colgate's vehicle fleet consumed 45,162 gallons of gasoline. A year later, after the university traded in its vehicles for newer, more fuel-efficient ones, our consumption dropped to 39,112 gallons. That number continues to drop. In 2021, the total gasoline consumption from Colgate's vehicle fleet was 33,241 gallons.

In the spring of 2014, Colgate installed a level 2 dual-arm electric vehicle charging station from ChargePoint. In 2021, a second dual-arm station was installed and in 2022 a third dual-arm charging station was installed.

Plans are currently underway to replace Colgate's fleet of around 80 golf carts with all-electric.
