Sustainability Fellows in the Office of Sustainability serve as peer-to-peer educators. The Sustainability Fellows have an orientation at the beginning of each year that goes over peer education principles. They also have bi-weekly meetings that include professional development and time to review progress on projects and event planning. Additionally, during their first year as a Sustainability Fellow, they take an Applied Sustainability Seminar for 2-credits to provide them with a deeper understanding of sustainability, how our campus works, and how to implement projects on campus. In addition to peer-to-peer education activities, the Sustainability Fellows also work on implementing sustainability projects on campus.
Working in teams, the Sustainability Fellows plan monthly training sessions on topics such as recycling and waste, energy and climate change, and sustainable food. Outreach events are also held for Campus Sustainability Week, Fall Weekend, RecycleMania and Earth Day. Some examples of events held in 2019-2020 include an event called "Heating Your Room for Camels" which reviewed how the campus heating system worked and how students can manage their room temperature, a screening and discussion of the Game Changers documentary, and a winter weather clothing swap.
