A brief description of the sustainable operations and maintenance policy/program and/or O+M rating system(s) used:

We use our own standards and guidelines for managing sustainability objectives in existing buildings. As an example our Green Cleaning Policies and Guidelines meet criteria set out by the LEED program for Green Cleaning. See document attached. Other design guidelines meet or beat some green building standards such as active transportation requirement reference LEED and the actual implementation of the design guideline results in higher percentage of bike spots as an example. https://cdn.dal.ca/content/dam/dalhousie/pdf/dept/facilities/Design%20Guidelines/ActiveTransportationGuide.pdf

We also participate in the US EPA Portfolio Manager Higher Education Benchmarking institutive and benchmark all of our buildings by ekWh/ft2 monthly and annually. We also have an Energy Management system where all energy and water meters are located and tracked.

We also employ continuous recommissioning practices through our Energy Management System's fault detection and energy usage analytics, and perform one detailed building wide recommissioning project per year. This detailed recommissioning project follows the procedures and guidelines of ASHRAE Standard 202 and ASHRAE Guideline 1.2-2019 for commissioning of existing buildings.

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:

The University has a number of plans, policies, and guidelines that support green building program for existing operations. In addition a number of programs are being implemented across all campuses buildings. Details of plans, policies, guidelines and programs by topic area are outlined on the Office of Sustainability website have been provided

For existing buildings, we did examine and test some certification systems. At this time, we deemed the focus of certification would be at the new building level as for existing buildings we have more limited budgets and resources. For this we would use our own plan, policies and guidelines as the framework for action.
