A brief description of how and when the cultural assessment(s) were developed and/or adopted:

The Campus Sustainability Manager and the Office of Institutional Research crafted the literacy assessment, incorporating feedback from faculty affiliated with the Environmental Studies minor. The Dean of Students approved the assessment in Summer 2019, and the first assessment was conducted in October 2019.

In 2022, a revised version of the assessment was created and distributed to all students in April, 2022. The Office of Sustainability and the Office of Institutional Research collaborated again to revise the 2019 assessment to ensure clarity of the questions and to add additional questions aimed at better assessing Emerson's sustainability performance and culture.

The same assessment will be run during the fall semester in 2023 and every two years thereafter.
