A brief description of the institution’s GHG emissions reduction initiatives:
In addressing Scope 1 emissions, UC Riverside has recently conducted an energy efficiency study of the Central Plant to find projects that both reduce the amount of energy consumed, and present a financial benefit to the campus. These projects include VFD compressor projects, insulation at the Central Plant along with steam tunnels, and automating the boiler blow down process. The campus fleet department has actively worked to increase the amount zero emissions vehicles that are part of the fleet, with a goal of 50% of all new purchases being ZEV. There are also efforts to utilize electric golf carts in place of gasoline fuel vehicles.
In addressing Scope 2 emissions, the campus has worked diligently to increase the amount of solar PV's installed on site, with a total of 8.2 MW capacity as of our submission. The campus partners closely with Riverside Public Utilities to support their efforts in finding renewable and cleaner energy sources.
