A brief description of the institution’s professional development opportunities on sustainability in the curriculum:

The University of Illinois/Illinois Extension work together to host a series of webinars to provide leadership and educational opportunities across a range of sustainability topics beyond our institution. These webinars are found here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHVXZEuuGQ663DfixOF4a6N_1_DgrVIn_. The current series targets watershed planning and grant writing/management and is attended by faculty, staff, students, and researchers internally and externally.

"Children, Stress, and Natural Disasters" program from the University of Illinois Extension is a set of resources for teachers and other child-care or youth workers that helps prepare them for working with children who have been through a disaster. It includes A Resource Guide for Teachers that describes what teachers can do to help during the recovery period, a set of Classroom Activities for Teachers that can be used following a disaster, and a Disaster Bibliography of children's books on floods and natural disasters compiled by Lynn Blinn Pike at the University of Missouri (https://extension.illinois.edu/global/illinois-disaster-resources).

Lastly, the University of Illinois Integrated Bioprocessing Research Laboratory hosts a fermentation short course, overlapping the food, biotech, and biofuels industries, with faculty lectures, equipment manufacturers, and hands-on training activities. Levenick Teaching Fellow Program -

https://sustainability.illinois.edu/about/partnerships/levenick-isee-fellows-program/

As a participant in the Teaching Sustainability Course Development Cohort, you will emerge from the program with a:

Comprehensive working definition of sustainability.
Framework for understanding the components of sustainability and how each relates to your background and expertise.
Set of opportunities for exploring sustainability on campus through the landscape, buildings, operations, transportation, and Illinois Climate Action Plan (iCAP) objectives.
Cohort of colleagues with similar goals to infuse sustainability into their teaching.
Stipend to be used as you see fit as a compensation for your time and effort.

The cohort consists of four components designed to make it as easy as possible for you to add sustainability to your teaching:

Teaching Sustainability Retreat. iSEE will host a kickoff retreat in spring, at which current and prior fellows will describe their experiences teaching and assessing sustainability-related themes.
Feedback and Support. Throughout each summer, iSEE will be available to provide feedback on your initial plans and course revisions.
Fall Check-In. In November, iSEE will host a luncheon for members of the cohort to discuss lessons learned, things that may bear revision in the future, and plans for the upcoming spring semester. Participants reworking an existing course will be expected to submit their instruction plans around the time of this meeting.
A Stipend. Faculty or instructors of record will receive monetary support for their participation in the above components and upon the end of the semester when the new or revamped course is taught.
