Name of the campaign:
America Recycles Day

A brief description of the campaign:

Created to educate students and faculty about new recycling guidelines and sustainable living practices, this event was held on the Columbus Campus. Students participated in a recycled robot building competition, clothing swap & donation collection, and featured a t-shirt bag crafting table.


A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:

Students were able to learn about and experience a micro-circular economy through the clothing swap & donation collection. The t-shirt bag crafting table and robot building competition challenged visitors to find innovative uses for the provided materials.


Name of the campaign (2nd campaign):
State Fair Sustainability Pavillion

A brief description of the campaign (2nd campaign):

Students-4-Sustainability club presented sustainable projects at the 2021 State Fair included: an electric bike generator, a large mural made from recycled plastics that would have otherwise been landfill fodder, Smart Nest Boxes to obtain data regarding native bird activity levels, and Bee MycHotels meant to assist solitary bee and wasp populations.


A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):

The State fair had over a quarter of a million visitors in 2021 and was the perfect opportunity to share our sustainability goals and projects with individuals from across the state.


A brief description of other sustainability-related outreach campaigns:

Sustainability staff host Earth Month activities at Kearney Center, Columbus, Hastings and Grand Island campuses. Each event includes activities, sustainable vendor or partner tables, documentary showings to celebrate. Last years’ events also included participation from the culinary and hospitality students where they catered the event utilizing the Degrees Food Truck. Faculty in-service session were held in October. The session included a pollinator garden, orchard, and bee hives. Information about native trees and pollinators were provided for staff.
