A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :

Students and their families are directly assisted by Sustainability Leadership Program students with cardboard recycling during Move In. New students receive Green-to-Go carabiners and information about how to use the mandatory reusable to-go program in the dining hall. Students and their families eat produce grown from the campus farm in the dining hall and are then invited to learn more about sustainability initiatives through a day-long open house at the Ullem Campus Farm and Center for Sustainability during Move In weekend.

First-years are further introduced to composting initiatives and waste diversion at the dining hall, recycling expectations through their RAs at their residence halls, and the community bikes program through the Adventure Outpost in the campus Union Building. During the first week of classes, first year students also receive placements at the campus farm and thrift store during the campus-wide "First-Year Service Plunge", which helps connect them to the many opportunities available in sustainability.

Sustainability staff play a role in the planning committee of first-year orientation to ensure these experiences are available to all students.

Finally, sustainability staff give a presentation to transfer students in January to highlight these opportunities to incoming students.
