Information regarding the "Green" culture at Hope is given to all incoming students along with a couple of sustainability focused giveaways.
All students that attend new student orientation are given promotional literature and a Sustainable Hope College Cupanion Cup to help develop awareness of the Sustainable Hope website, recycling efforts on campus, reduction of single use items, and composting opportunities.
Before coming to campus students are mailed a packet of resources on what to bring to college and our sustainability team included a reference of "green items" to bring (examples listed were ENERGYStar products, bike, helmet, lights, etc...). This is also promoted on the New Student Orientation social media accounts.

Since the fall of 2019 freshmen move-in, we also have had a heavy focus on collecting materials for recycling. In 2019 we had two stations near freshmen residential halls that were hosted by student move-in day helpers. Due to the pandemic we were not able to host collection stations in the fall of 2020, but we did reinstate these in 2021 and 2022. In 2021 at one residential hall we collected the following amount of material: 10 yards of cardboard, 175 lbs of plastic film, and 166 lbs of styrofoam within a three hour timeframe.
Within four hours, during an event hosted for the fall of 2022 freshmen move-in we filled a 20-yard container with broken down cardboard and also collected 48.58 pounds of plastic film as well as 39.3 pounds of styrofoam for recycling.
In 2020 due to the pandemic we were not able to meet in person with students and educate them about sustainability, but one of our student interns created this short sustainability video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fn5Spy0P7XM&list=PLtkHbfXPm2VojPDNob2kD55DaCYEjnZhV&index=1 We have continued to promote this video in 2021 and 2022 as well.
