Partnership with The Nature Conservancy

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:

Since 2015, Northwestern and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) have been partnered (via a formal MOU) to further joint research related to ecosystem conservation and climate change. The MOU was re-signed in 2019, outlining joint objectives and research areas which include: insurance sector engagement on issues of climate change, storm water management, human impacts of urban biodiversity, green infrastructure, community resilience to increasingly frequent extreme weather, corporate sustainability, and agricultural impacts of climate change.

Past projects and collaboration include leadership appointments (TNC Illinois State Director serves on the ISEN Industry Advisory Board, Northwestern Professor Bill Miller was appointed to the TNC Illinois Board of Trustees in 2018), joint research and research fellowships (spanning work in hydrology, green infrastructure, poaching and deforestation, and extreme weather and community resilience), law and public policy support vis-à-vis a relationship with Northwestern Pritzker School of Law’s Environmental Advocacy Center, and programmatic engagement (public and private speaking events).
