A brief description of the institution’s community garden:

The Student Sustainability Resource Center (SSRC) Community Garden is a student-run organic garden located a block away from the Southern Oregon University campus in Ashland, Oregon. The SSRC Community Garden rents out garden plots to both community members and SOU students.

Maintenance and other expenses are paid from garden fees and a budget from the SOU Student Incidental Fee. All gardeners pay an annual plot fee that is calculated based on the size of the individual plot (between $5 and $30 per year). In addition, there is an annual garden membership fee of $40 that is charged to community member gardeners (anyone that does not currently pay the SOU Student Incidental Fee). The membership fee is waived for enrolled SOU students.

The purpose of the SSRC community garden is to maintain a space where community members and the SOU community can learn from each other and practice organic gardening in a welcoming and inclusive environment. Student garden coordinators work for SSRC and help maintain common spaces, work on projects, communicate by email with Gardners, and oversee garden administration.
