A brief description of the time period from which the figures reported above are drawn:

Purchasing data spanned from 2020-2022 (3 years). Data used in this analysis is from the college inventory of electronic devices across all departments. Only purchases less than $5,000 made using a purchase order were included in this analysis. Orders with a larger total and those made with a College purchasing card were not included. The data used is not comprehensive, but was the best data available at the time.

Electronics listed in the inventory include laptops, desktops, monitors, tablets, GPS trackers, cameras, printers, copiers, and multi-function printers. Data was obtained from ESF's Computing and Network Systems. Data includes purchase date, cost, manufacturer, model, and SKU. This information was used to determine the environmental- and socially-preferred attributes and certifications (e.g., EPEAT, ENERGY STAR, etc.). The total cost by certification was obtained for each year then averaged to obtain the above numbers (average annual expenditure). The values reported are rounded for conciseness.

See the attached spreadsheet for the data used to determine these numbers.
